The Challenge (why)
The challenge of the electric charging infrastructure provider GP JOULE CONNECT was to relieve their sales team and optimize the sales process.
GP JOULE sales representatives want to improve the qualification of relevant leads. However, the challenge on the part of those interested in charging infrastructure projects was not only to gain a basic understanding of charging infrastructure projects, but also to receive an individual and personal digital configuration, planning estimate and possible costs in just a few minutes.
The aim of the digital innovation in B2B sales was for users to “plan their charging infrastructure project in just a few clicks.”
My Process (how)
User research and assumptions mapping
As part of the project, I conducted intensive user tests and interviews to validate the actual requirements of the users.
Thanks to the Assumptions Mapping method, hypotheses that had the greatest impact on desirability, viability and feasibility were prioritized.
In addition, the test card framework was used to test specific hypotheses about the user experience on the results page and to identify the most important missing information with the help of interviews and surveys.
UX design and requirements management
Based on the research results, I developed a UI pattern library that served as the basis for the project. This was used to create a consistent, user-centered design for the tool and the website. In addition to the concept and design, wireframes were created. In Jira/Confluence, I created a Kanban and wrote epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, definition of done and developed a prioritized product backlog. There were bi-weekly stakeholder feedback meetings.
As a UI/UX designer, I took on many product owner tasks. I worked according to the lean startup approach in order to test, learn and iteratively develop the tool (build-measure-learn cycle). This resulted in additional click paths in the tool, which serve new target groups: Petrol station owners, fleet managers and truck fleet managers.
The expansion of the digital advisor made the tool even more comprehensive and valuable. The E.XPERT was used as a white label tool for other companies such as Mobilize and Minol Drive. One example is the simulade: simulating the project or implementation idea. Hundreds of simulations are used for continuous further development.
My Solution (what)
E.XPERT is a digital consultant for charging infrastructure projects. Users can easily enter important details about their planned infrastructure, such as the number of electrified vehicles and vehicle classes, the distance to be covered and the desired charging time. In turn, E.XPERT provides an overview of the associated costs for the charging infrastructure and guides users through the necessary steps to turn their electrification project into a feasible and realizable reality.
The E.XPERT digital advisor is also playful, thanks to the many small animations that make the click paths exciting and entertaining. More about E.XPERT in the YouTube promotional video.
My Learnings
Through close collaboration with the developers and the iterative approach, I developed my skills in agile project management, especially in the area of communication between design and development.
Assumptions mapping, user story mapping and test cards proved to be valuable tools for making data-driven decisions for planning the project and implementing prioritized features efficiently. I learned how crucial early and continuous user testing is for project success.
In addition, I sharpened my UX communication skills, which got better and better through regular stakeholder meetings.
